This SFP+ direct attach data storage cable has a SFP+ (SFF-8432) connector on both ends. They are constructed using shielded twin-axial copper cable in varying gauges from 24 to 30AWG. It is typically used to directly attach switches/servers in short distance point to point applications and provide 10 Gigabit Ethernet connectivity between devices with SFP+ interfaces. The cable is also hot-swappable which minimizes network downtimes, making upgrades quick and easy.
Passive cables are much less expensive but require the host to do the work of driving it properly, they have higher reliability and require fewer components (no active Tx /Rx components). Active cables offer the added benefit of being optical-module such as: enhanced signal integrity, transmit pre-emphasis and longer cable lengths.
