DisplayPort cables:
DisplayPort is a user friendly, plug and play format which delivers high definition digital video and audio to your display device in packet data format via a single cable. This allows selective screen area updates and provides power saving features required for notebook applications. Display Port supports a minimum of 1080P resolution at 24bpp, 50/60 Hz. It is capable of video bandwidth up to 10.8Gbps. All of our DisplayPort cables support the following minimum requirements:

  • DisplayPort v1.1 compliant
  • Optional high quality digital audio transmissions
  • Embedded clock architecture reduces EMI susceptibility
  • Supports video bandwidth up to 10.8Gbps
  • Supports greater than 2048 x 1536 resolution at 24-bit color depths
  • Supports 8-bit and 10-bit deep color
  • Supports hot plug and un-plug detection
  • Supports existing VESA and CEA standards
  • Supports conversion from Display Port to HDMI
  • Supports 1Mbps bidirectional auxiliary channel
  • Supports one lane, one direction, four line connection


Compatibility of usage:
Mini DisplayPort and Thunderbolt use the same connector interface but are actually different cables. Thunderbolt cables have a chip built into the connector and run two independent channels at a data-transfer speed of 10Gbps per channel (totaling 20Gbps). Mini DisplayPort is a passive cable which uses 4 channels and runs at a speed of 2.7Gbps per channel (totaling 10.8Gbps).
Our mini DisplayPort cables can be used in the following applications:

  • Mini DisplayPort source to mini DisplayPort monitor
  • Thunderbolt source to mini DisplayPort monitor

Mini DisplayPort cables cannot be used in the following applications:

  • Mini DisplayPort source to Thunderbolt monitor
  • Thunderbolt source to Thunderbolt monitor

A mini DisplayPort source is not compatible with a Thunderbolt monitor regardless of the cable being used. The only cable that can be used to connect a Thunderbolt source to a Thunderbolt monitor is a Thunderbolt cable. Thunderbolt cables are not backwards compatible with any of the other applications mentioned above.
